Who is the lifeguard?
The lifeguard (lifeguard assistant, beach guard or often simply lifeguard) is the one who supervises the safety of those who frequent swimming pools, bathing establishments by the sea or lake.
What does the lifeguard do?
The lifeguard mainly takes care of the safety of bathers on the beach or in the swimming pool. Check the sea conditions and suggest the most appropriate behavior to swimmers. Supervises people in the water and intervenes in case of danger or risk of drowning.
Who can be a lifeguard?
Anyone can become a lifeguard. All you need is to be between 16 and 55 years of age and above all to have excellent psychophysical and swimming skills: in short, you need to be in good health, fit and know how to swim well.
Why be a lifeguard?
Many people become lifeguards because they have a passion for water, have a good knowledge of it and know its dangers. Most FIN Rescue holders have some level of experience in a water activity, be it swimming, diving, surfing, canoeing or sailing.

What is the difference between lifeguard and lifeguards?
The term "lifeguard" is used only and exclusively to indicate those patented by the National Rescue Society while the term "lifeguard assistant" for those patented by FIN Rescue. Both terms correspond to the same duties and the same rights/duties.
What is the name of the lifeguard tower?
The surveillance tower (or lifeguard tower) is a rescue tool envisaged by the Bathing Ordinance which indicates it as an "observation platform raised from the beach level by at least two meters" leaving the lifeguard all the freedom to build it as you see fit.
When is the presence of the lifeguard obligatory?
According to the Decree of the Ministry of the Interior of 18 March 1996, in article 14 it reads: "The lifeguard service must be performed by a lifeguard assistant when the number of people simultaneously present in the activity space exceeds 20 or in tanks with pools of water of more than 50 square meters.”
How many lifeguards should there be in a swimming pool?
The continuous presence of at least two lifeguards must be ensured in each pool. For pools with pools of up to 100 square meters of surface area, the presence of at least one lifeguard assistant is required at the poolside.
What does it take to be a lifeguard assistant?
To practice this profession you need to be in possession of a specific patent, which enables you to carry out the functions of assisting bathers in bathing establishments and swimming pools. The patent is issued exclusively by the Italian Swimming Federation and by the National Lifesaving Society.
How many days does a lifeguard work?
As far as working hours are concerned, the aforementioned CCNL establishes that for non-clerical staff this is 44 hours a week, spread over 6 days.
How many hours does a lifeguard work a day?
About 4 and a half hours.

What does it take to become a lifeguard?
To enroll in the "lifeguard Classes near me" course, in order to obtain professional qualification it is necessary:
- to enroll in and attend the training course;
- be admitted to the final exam;
- successfully pass the final qualification exam.
How long does the lifeguard course last?
The lifeguard course lasts about two and a half months and is held twice a week. Lessons take place in the evening and possibly on weekends.
