reasons to become a lifeguard

1. The training will not cost you a penny and you will even be paid!

This is the good news of the day, some organizations, including the ULC, offer fully lifeguard training near me. These organizations will even do all the formalities

2. Because it's a job that you can practice indoors or outdoors according to your desires

We often have the image of the lifeguard screwed to his pool chair but the activity does not stop at indoor pools. During the summer months, some of the lifeguards also work outdoors, whether in campsite pools, leisure centers or in natural environments  : sea, ocean and lakes.

3. Because we are looking for lifeguards all over USA

Know that work is not lacking among lifeguards and for your first position, you will be spoiled for choice. Employability is excellent and you will be able to choose where and how you want to work all year round.

If you are looking for stability, you will find 35-hour contracts, year-round, often indoors. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a more adventurous life, you can do the summer season in a leisure center, camping or with your feet in the sand on the beach before spending the winter months teaching indoors. It's up to you !

 4. Because you will literally save lives (and not just Baywatch mode!)

So yes, if someone is in difficulty, the lifeguard is there to ensure their safety or even save them from drowning in extreme cases. But big scoop: this is not the way you will save the most lives!

The first role of the lifeguard is not to directly save people who are drowning but to teach them how to swim well so that they never find themselves in difficulty in the water. It is therefore a really useful profession that avoids many accidents each year. Unfortunately, we observe a 30% increase in accidental drownings in USA between 2015 and 2018.

5. Because being a lifeguard means saying goodbye to routine

Between the teaching sessions, the animations and the surveillance, the day of a lifeguard is never monotonous. And this is also due to the diversity of the audiences he meets: ranging from 4-month-old baby swimmers to the elderly, including children, teenagers and adults.

We must therefore constantly adapt according to the expectations of each public: we do not behave in the same way with children in the context of school swimming and older people who come to relax.

 6. Because helping someone overcome their fear of water is priceless!

Another very satisfying aspect of the job: special courses for aquaphobes , that is to say people who have a real apprehension of the aquatic environment, even a panic fear of water.

Seeing a person arrive afraid to put a toe in the pool and leave swimming 25 meters is very rewarding

And in general, the human contact and the transmission of knowledge that the profession brings is something very enriching.

 7. Because you can live from your passion

When you choose a job in sport, it's usually because you're passionate about it and it's a real chance to be able to make a living from it. Doing what you love the most day in and day out is super fulfilling and it's definitely the best career choice you can make. And if you wish, you can go and train on your break times as a bonus !

8. Because taunting those who work in the office when you're in flip flops all year round is highly satisfying.

Last but not least, working in tap dancing all year round, whether in the pool or at the beach, it has a really nice side.
